How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” – Romans 10:14-15 ESV
The Feet of Those Who Preach The Good News
- Dirty Feet
- Sore Feet
- Beautiful Feet
1. Dirty Feet
The feet of those who preach the Gospel will be “dirty feet.” These feet tend to travel outside the Church walls to reach those who don’t know Christ. It is true there are lost people in our pews, but these feet will find themselves where lost people are, outside the walls of the Church.
They travel through dirt and mud. They know that, in order to reach lost people, they will travel where lost people are, knowing they are in the world. The feet of those who carry the Gospel will not be afraid to travel where they will be uncomfortable, where they will be in the world and not of the world, where they will hold conversations of confrontation in order to preach the Gospel, where they will get their feet dirty.
They travel where there are no roads. They go where others haven’t. In order to reach the lost, they know they need to reach the unreached, those who have never heard the Gospel, where they are able to pave the way to places that have never had the Gospel preached to them.
2. Sore Feet
The feet of those who preach the Gospel will be sore. They will travel far. Not just in their backyard, but everywhere they go, they will carry the message of the Gospel. They will carry this message till they can’t carry it any longer, till their feet give out.
They will encounter rocky roads, roads where the travel is difficult, making sacrifices from worldly pleasures, knowing that it is for the sake of the Gospel. It’s not a smooth journey, it’s going to hurt in places, but is definitely worth it.
They will have their feet stomped on. Not everyone they preach the message to will respond positively. Some will be persecuted, some will be killed, yet some will win souls, but they know they are not called to win souls, they are called to preach the Gospel.
3. Beautiful Feet
These feet are beautiful. They are feet with a purpose. They travel far for a reason; to share the Gospel. Everywhere they go, everywhere they are, their purpose is to share a message to a dying world.
They are feet with a passion. This passion will lead to suffering, whether it’s suffering from pleasures of this world or suffering of persecution, these feet will keep walking. They will carry the Gospel no matter the cost because Christ gave all for them.
They are feet with a promise, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that Christ was raised from the dead, you will be saved from death to life (Rom 10:9).
